1951 Air Force Ambulance. When I was in high school, I was the owner of this vehicle. (See pictures) we left Oklahoma in June of 1965 to go to California and work at Disneyland. We made it to Vanita, and the engine gave out. (See picture) My dad being the kindly old soul that he was, picked us up and took us back to Miami, Ok. He bought me a one-way bus ticket to Los Angeles (I think he was hinting that I was on my own) He repaired the Caddy and it was sold. I lost track of it for many years. I saw an ad on Ebay for it and bought it. ( with my wife’s permission) the owner had started a frame off restoration. He had powder coated the frame, dipped the body, and had put over $32,000 into it. ( I have most of The receipts) engine, transmission and rear end were overhauled, all of the chrome (including the window frames and small items as well as the huge front & rear bumpers, tail and head lights. the steering column & shifter were rebuilt. the new wire loom was built by Y&Z’s yesterdays parts with all of the period correct connecters and color coding (instructions and guide included). The Dash has been powder coated, the steering wheel was remade by Wheel Master, the front seat has been rebuilt and covered in the correct pattern. Many other extras, and spare 51 332 V8, Cad 3 on the tree Cad La Salle manual transmission. Unfortunately, old age has caught up to me. ( how did that happen so fast??) All those broken bones, strains and joint damage from 40+ years in the fire service has come home to remind me that I am officially an old fart. I am not going to be able to finish this Detroit jig-saw puzzle. I am hoping to find someone to take over and finish this project and enjoy this beast. It has clear CA title and tags, currently non-Op. converted to 12v, dash inst. cluster refurbished to 12 v.
