M1079 Stewart & Stevenson LMTV Military Van Truck, Manufactured 1998
This M1079 Stewart & Stevenson Van Truck was built for the US military in 1998. Some years later the Stewart & Stevenson Co was purchased by BAE company. Eventually the design of these trucks became outdated because they lacked sufficient body armor to protect the soldiers from road explosives. The Department of Defense started selling the used Stewart & Stevenson /BAE LMTV(Light Medium Tactical Vehicles) inventory and also issued a Request for Proposal for a new truck design which was eventually awarded to Oshkosh.
I purchased this M1079 truck at auction in 2014 and also currently own two similar M1078 LMTVs. I like the Cab Over Engine design of these trucks because of the maneuverability and easy engine access. My company has owned several COE designed trucks, including UD, Hino, Mitsubishi and Volvo. These LMTV trucks are surprisingly comfortable to drive because of the automatic transmission, air ride cab, great visibility and excellent turning radius. I have used Allison automatic transmission for 25 years and find them very reliable. I also like the CTIS tire inflation system on the M1079 and M1078 which allows you to deflate or inflate the tires from inside the cab. The fact that these Stewart & Stevenson trucks were required by contract to have 80% parts commonality throughout the entire FMTV(Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles) fleet assures that there will be used or new parts available. For instance a set of springs or brake shoes will fit most LMTV models.This M1079 truck runs and operates as if it is new and has less than 4000 miles on the odometer. SOME ITEMS NEEDING ATTENTION:
This truck currently has two 6TL Lead acid batteries which are several years old, but originally it had four, Eventually four new batteries will need to be purchased by the new owner. The original tires have practically no road wear but eventually they will need to be replaced due to age. The exterior canvas blackout window shades will need removal or replacement. The Van ladder needs a repair to the aluminum bracket rest. The Van marker lights are currently not working. The paint is original and in good condition, fortunately it has not been repainted with the tan coating. Please be advised that used vehicles will have ordinary wear and tear, including scratches and dings and mechanical parts are subject to fail. We recommend that you inspect the vehicle prior to purchasing.

THIS TRUCK WILL BE SOLD AS IS, WITH NO WARRANTEE OR GUARANTEE EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. The US government SF-997 transfer form will be transferred to new owner upon the seller receiving full payment. The buyer assumes all responsibility for obtaining any state title or otherwise registering the vehicle and paying state sales tax. This reassignment is made “AS IS, WHERE IS” and the seller makes no warrantee or representations as to the vehicle or title. Buyers are responsible for all applicable state, county, and city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. Buyer will be responsible for registration of the vehicle after the sale is complete.
Buyer is responsible for transport or pick-up of the vehicle from Seller’s facility where the vehicle is located within ten (10) business days. Buyer assumes all risk of loss once ownership transfers. If the vehicle is going to be transported, full payment must be received before the vehicle is loaded on the trailer.
