WW2 Trophy Bringback Imperial Japanese Army Type 90 Combat Steel Helmet
This is an original WW2 T90 Japanese Combat Helmet Showa 19 marked for 1944. The helmet is complete with original combat paint, original front army star insignia, original leather liner, and original cloth weave chinstrap. The helmet shell has no dents or major issues and retains most of the original paint. The exterior headband has visible paint stokes of finishing believed camouflage paint as well, with the front army star firm and securely attached. Both securing tabs on the backside of the star insignia are intact. Tabs on both liner attachment rivets are intact too. The interior shell has painted kanji marking at the back of the helmet for Size “Large”. The interior leather headband has a matching size marking pin-pricked into the leather, Size “Large”. There is a partial diamond factory manufacturing strike mark on the back inside of the metal shell out near the edge, see last picture. The leather liner pads show normal-lite use wear and no major issues. All three leather liner pads have their original padding or stuffing still tied in-place. The chinstrap is in great overall condition with some mild age and is still complete and full length. Overall, a great condition, all original helmet example. Looks to be Showa 19 marked on the backside of the front liner pad, Showa 19 for 1944.
I did check the entire helmet over with my UV black light, nothing whatsoever glows under a UV black light, same for the net, no-glow, so no modern fabric components. Just a quick word on nets. Years back, I acquired this helmet with the Japan Army Navy camouflage net already on it. This is one of the nets with reinforced double rope at the edge. You can find these nets for sale on many militaria sites as original, but some collectors are saying these are very good copies some say even made with original material in the 1970’s – 1980’s in Japan by Nakata Shoten. The net displays on this helmet extremely well so I have left it in-place. Helmet would be a very good addition to any Pacific War / USMC Marines WW2 Collection.
Feel free to ask for any more details. I will be glad to answer any questions.
